According to Deadline, Deano, an animated adult comedy by Dean Thomas (Sam Pang Tonight, Childish Deano) and David Ferrier (You’re Skitting Me, Darby Forever), was just picked up by Hulu. Joe Brumm (Bluey, Bluey’s Big Play) will be the executive producer of the series.
Deadline mentioned that Deano is about a mischievous eight-year-old boy who is blending his modern family life with chaos. Per Disney, a more detailed synopsis is as follows: “Deano is a spirited cheeky charmer of a boy, whose tough exterior coats a real heart of gold. He is the most endering feisty kid you will ever meet and is growing up in a ruthless tough neighborhood in a house that shoud be condemned. He has no concept that the chips are stacked against him and embraces everyone equally, from the local teenage dropouts to the town police chief. At the heart of the series is Deano’s friendship with Kit, his timid best mate from the wealthy side of town. Kit is blind to Deano’s circumstances and is drawn to his friend’s energy and fearless worldview. Together, they walk face-first into an unfiltered world that’s leaking empathy by the hour; yet somehow, Deano still shines as a beacon of irreverent optimism, a reminder of how good life can feel.”
Deadline reports that Hooligan Animation, an Australian animation studio, will co-produce the series with lead producer BBC Studios and 20th Television Animation; Hulu is the international distributor. Hooligan’s EPs include Greg Basser (Stars on Mars, Passengers), Tracey Robertson (Five Bedrooms, Land of Bad), Ross Shuman (Hell and Back, Dark Minions), Nathan Mayfield (The Mark, Land of Bad) and Tracey Vieira (The Mark, Five Bedrooms). Adam Bailey will be the EP for the BBC.
Deano’s first season will consist of eight episodes, Deadline writes, premiering on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for United States subscribers, and on Disney+ internationally. Although, in the UK, the premiere will hit BBC iPlayer and BBC One before streaming on Disney+.
