According to Variety, The Sandman has cast the three remaining siblings in the “Endless Family.” Adrian Lester (Primary Colors, The Affiar) stars as Destiny, Esme Creed-Miles (The Doll Factory, Hannah) as Delirium, and Barry Sloane (Longmire, Revenge) as “the Prodigal.”
The Sandman is based on the Graphic Novel series of the same name by Neil Gaiman. The series follows Morpheus, also known as the Sandman, played by Tom Sturridge (Orphans, American Buffalo), as he sets out to restore order to his realm after a century of imprisonment.
Along with the new siblings, siblings of the Endless family returning from the original season are Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Why Women Kill, Queenpins) as Death, Mason Alexander Park (Quantum Leap, iCarly) as Desire, and Donna Preston (Good Omens, Hard Cell) as Despair. Other cast members returning are Patton Oswalt (Bojack Horseman, Manhunt), Vivienne Acheampong (We The Jury, Jackdaw), Gwendoline Christie (Wednesday, The Adams Family), Jenna Coleman (Wilderness, The Serpent), Ferdinand Kingsley (Silo, Reacher), Steven Fry (Wilde, Bones), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing, The Honeymoon), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten, The Indian Doctor), Vanesu Samunyai, and Razane Jammal (Paranormal, The Djinn).
These new castings suggest that The Sandman’s second season may follow the “Season Of Mists” installment of the graphic novel series.
The series was renewed for a second season in November 2022, but production dealt with massive delays due to the writer’s strike in 2023. Gaiman said he was already searching for actors to play the yet-uncasted Endless siblings. He told Variety that “Right now, what we’re doing is every time I think of or run into or pass or notice an actor who could be either a Destruction or a Delirium, Allan [Heinberg] gets an email.”
The Sandman’s showrunner is Heinberg (Wonder Woman, The Catch). All episodes of The Sandman’s second season are expected to be directed by Jamie Childs (Willow, His Dark Materials). The first six episodes are written by Heinberg, Ameni Rozsa (Yellowjackets, The Catch), Alexander Newman-Wise (The Catch, For The People), Austin Guzman (Scandal, Why Woman Kill), Shady Petosky (Brightburn, Super), and Jim Campolongo (White Collar, The Blacklist)
