Deadline reports that Adam Brody (The O.C., Gilmore Girls) has been cast as the male lead opposite Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, The Good Place) in an upcoming Netflix untitled comedy series created by Erin Foster (Barely Famous, RENO 911!). Foster executive produces with Steve Levitan (Modern Family, Stacked). The series follows the relationship between an unconventional but charming rabbi played by Brody and an outspoken, agnostic woman played by Bell.
Brody’s character, Noah, is used to playing it safe and is stuck in his ways but stumbles when his safe life plan is upended by meeting Bell’s character, provocative and brutally honest Joanne.
The series was ordered by Netflix in March but not much else is known.
Brody will appear in the upcoming reboot of classic film River Wild with Tara Killam (How I Met Your Mother, Single Parents) and Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl, House). He was in Shazam! Fury of the Gods earlier this year and recently starred in Hulu’s critically acclaimed limited series Fleishman is in Trouble. Brody is best known for playing Seth Cohen on popular Fox series The O.C. His film credits include Jennifer’s Body, Promising Young Woman, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Ready or Not, Scream, and Scream 4. He also appeared in StartUp on Crackle and Billy & Billie on USA. He is represented by UTA.
This is Bell’s second series on Netflix, having starred in Netflix’s thriller The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window.
Along with Foster and Levitan, the comedy series is executive produced by Bell, Sara Foster (90210, Barely Famous), Craig DiGregorio (Ash vs Evil Dead, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World), Danielle Stokdyk (Veronica Mars, Party Down), Oly Obst (The Resident, Ghosted), and Josh Lieberman (American Vandal, Those Who Can’t).
