The hot Netflix spinoff series Cobra Kai is going strong with no signs of slowing down for its upcoming fifth season. In an exclusive story by Deadline, the series has announced its decision to cast Alicia Hannah-Kim (Minx) for the new season. According to the season teaser summary, Kim plays as a Korean sensei who enters the fold as a figure that serves to advance Terry Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith) plan of total Cobra Kai dojo domination in the All Valley area.
Given that her goals align with that of the Cobra Kai expansion, it is safe to assume that she and her students are more likely to be aligned with the bad-guy faction in the show. This comes on the heels of Silver’s successful scapegoating of John Kreese (Martin Kove) last season, as well as having rigged the results of the All Valley Tournament in season four. In order to keep up, Miyagi-Do dojo’s Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) seeks to enlist the aid of former nemesis Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) to help take down Silver and bring peace and stability to the All Valley region.
The teaser trailer introduces several elements that indicate the increased stakes present in season five, such as the presence of real weapons and the forging of unlikely alliances.
Season five’s global premiere is set for September ninth. Watch the new teaser trailer below:
