

According to Deadline, Netflix will have a new spinoff series from the 80’s show, A Different World. Jasmine Guy (Shadow Dance, Poker Face), Kadeem Hardison (Criminal , Euphoria), Cree Summer (The Loud House, Animal Man)and Darryl M Bell (Insecure, The Dark Party) are among some of the cast that will be reviving their original roles. These four actors characters will be reoccurring throughout the new season.
According to Deadline, Felicia Pride (Grey’s Anatomy, Really Love) is the named showrunner and executive producer of this single-camera comedy. Netflix ordered ten episodes. Pride will EP along side Debbie Allen (Fame, Grey;s Anatomy), who produced, directed and acted in the original series. Allen will EP and direct three episodes of the spinoff, including the premiere.
The actors said jointly in a statement to Deadline, “A Different World is back!!! We are over the moon to bring this much-anticipated sequel with our retuning legacy stars, Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer and Darryl M. Bell! These believed characters are returning in a major way that respects their history while engaging exciting storylines that are relevant to issues of today.” The actors continued, “Throughout the season, fans will have a chance to reunite with these O.G. characters and see how their lives have evolved into ‘A Different World.’ And as the story unfolds, there will be more cast surprises in store for longtime fans. We can’t wait for lovers of the show to experience this new chapter as a real continuation of the legacy show, and we’re excited to welcome new audiences to Hillman.”
Deadline reports the new series is about the character, Deborah Wayne, played by actress Maleah Joe Moon (Mystic Christmas, Disney Television Discovers: Talent Showcase), who is the daughter of Dwayne and Whitney Glbert as she starts her freshman year at Hillman. Wayne starts her own journey at Hillman apart from her alumni parents.
Deadline noted that Netflix had ordered the pilot last March and told the media last August. The original series was a spinoff from The Cosby Show starring Lisa Bonet (Jellywolf, Ray Donovan). The new Different World will feature new class mates at Hillman.
