Voice actor of the character Dale Gribble on King of the Hill Johnny Hardwick (The Collegians Are Go!!) has passed away. According to Deadline, the actor was 64 years old when he passed away on August 8th at his Austin, Texas home. Both Dale Gribble and Johnny Hardwick were most well known for their unique Texas accent and have been on Emmy-winning animated show since the 1997 debut of King of The Hill till its very last episode that aired on Fox in 2010.
Hulu, which is where fans can watch the re-runs of King of the Hill, announced earlier this year that Johnny Hardwick would be making a return for the show’s streaming revival. However, in the event of his death, he has not finished the recording of the show’s new season. According to the Austin coroner’s office, Johnny Hardwick’s death was confirmed and it was also announced that there were no signs of foul play. At this moment, the cause of death is still not yet decided and is still under the coroner’s investigation.
Both 20th Television Animation and Hulu have released a statement regarding the actor’s passing, stating, “Johnny Hardwick was an incredibly beloved member of the King of the Hill family, whose tremendous talent, brilliant humor and friendship will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to work with him over the past 25 years. Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family as we mourn the loss of one of the animation greats. His voice gave life to one of our most iconic characters, and he will be truly missed.”
King of the Hill was made by Greg Daniels (The Office) and Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head) and took place in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas. The story surrounded the lives of Hank Hill played by Mike Judge, his wife Peggy played by Kathy Najimy (Sister Act), and their teen son Bobby played by Pamela Adlon (Better Things).
