Actor Jared Harris Believes That The Royal Family Would Approve Of Netflix’s ‘The Crown’

The first part of The Crown premiered on Netflix on November 16th. The second part, which will end with the series finale, is set to premiere on December 14th. According to Deadline, Jared Harris (The Terror, Foundation), who played King George VI, spoke about the series on the BBC Radio 4 program Today. Specifically, he shared how he believed the Royal Family would react to The Crown.

Harris stated, “There’s always a question of whether you should be doing this or telling this tale or whether it is in some way disrespectful and my opinion is that I think the royal family would be delighted because it is humanizing them.”

He continued, “There was a lot of a scrutiny back then about royal watchers and so on. Everyone knew there would be a tremendous amount of interest [when it started]. Vogue did a photo spread and whenever fashion mags are interested in your show you know it’s going to elevate to a different level.”

As Deadline notes, Harris appeared as King George VI throughout the first season of The Crown as well as in flashbacks for season two. For his performance, he was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2017. He was also nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award and a Satellite Award.

Created by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, Rush), The Crown follows Queen Elizabeth II and her rule. She has been portrayed by three different actresses throughout the series: Claire Foy (Women Talking, First Man), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter, The Favourite), and Imelda Staunton (Nanny McPhee, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix).

Season six of the series, which also serves as the final season, focuses primarily on Princess Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, The Night Manager).

Fans of The Crown can look forward to seeing how the series ends in less than three weeks.
