ACE Entertainment, the production company responsible for the breakout hit To All The Boys I Loved Before on Netflix, has announced they are launching television division. ACE Entertainment is a production company founded by Matt Kaplan (The Lazarus Effect). Kaplan spent two years as President of the film department at Awesomeness Films before leaving in 2017 to start ACE Entertainment with Brian Robbins (Irreplaceable You). Kaplan said, “I had an incredible run with Brian at Awesomeness and I wanted to continue to make films specifically for a demo that’s targeted to millennial and Gen Z as Brian and I had been doing.” ACE Entertainment will continue with its emphasis on young adult content with its new television division.
Spencer Berman (Happily, Man Seeking Woman) has been appointed the new Head of Television at ACE Entertainment. Berman was Jack Black’s (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) producing partner at Electric Dynamite Productions where he oversaw development and production for television and film projects. Prior to Electric Dynamite, Berman worked as a creative executive for Lorne Michael’s (Saturday Night Live) Broadway Video, where he watched over their slate of series. Further members of the team include Paul Kim as the manager of development and Kaelyn Moore who will be a coordinator.
The television department at ACE Entertainment aims to produce character-driven and relationship-driven content in both live-action and animation mediums for the young adult audience. ACE Entertainment has greenlit a limited series TV reboot of Are You Afraid of the Dark? for Nickelodeon and Fugee High at AMC. Fugee High is a one-hour ensemble drama created by Mohamad El Masri (Here and Now). The show centers on high school refugee students in a small, conservative community in America’s heartland. As the school takes in more refugee kids, the community becomes increasingly racially and politically divided. ACE Entertainment has numerous projects lined up with various networks and streaming platforms, including Comedy Central and Quibi.
