According to Deadline, HBO’s critically acclaimed drama comedy series Insecure has landed on Netflix. The move was announced last month and earlier today the show was made available. With the series finale airing in December of 2021, all five seasons of Insecure were made available to Netflix users.
Insecure, created by Issa Rae (Little, Barbie) and Larry Wilmore (The PJs, The Bernie Mac Show), ventures into the Black female experience. Best friends Molly (Yvonne Orji, Vacation Friends, The Blackening) and Issa, portrayed by Rae, try to manage their own fatal flaws and navigate the uncomfortable experiences that they face every day. Insecure has earned 14 Emmy nominations throughout its five season run and won the category, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series in 2020.
Insecure is said to be the leader for the slew of titles expecting to be airing on Netflix. Along with Netflix, Insecure also got a run on the Warner Bros. Discovery owned cable network OWN at an earlier date in 2023. As part of the deal of series moving to Netflix, audiences can expect to see Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, Ballers and The Pacific.
True Blood will also be moved onto Netflix, it currently airs on the rival streaming platform, Hulu. The agreement is co-exclusive with Warner Bros. Discovery Max and it’s rumored that CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery Max, David Zaslav, agreed early into his tenure that he was open to moving titles around and forgoing exclusivity and licensed content in order to boost the bottom line. This was made extremely evident when Warner Bros. Discovery started moving titles like Westworld to free streaming platforms Tubi and Roku.
There was a lot of push back from HBO veterans about this deal but eventually corporate financial consideration won out. So, be on the lookout for HBO favorites on Netflix in the coming weeks.
