Will Trent is an American police procedural crime drama television series based on American crime novelist Karin Slaughter’s (Pieces of Her, Girl, Forgotten) Will Trent series of novels. The series premiered on January 3, 2023 on ABC. The premise of the show follows the character of Will Trent, played by Ramón Rodríguez (Day Break, Iron Fist). Will Trent, having been abandoned by his parents as a child, has had to grow up in the Atlanta foster care system. Despite being dyslexic, he has grown up to become a Special Agent in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Trent has an eye for observational detail, and this has enabled him to become the GBI agent with the highest case clearance rate. The showrunners for this series are Elizabeth Heldens (Deception) and Daniel T. Thomsen (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
Not including rebroadcasts of the series, its pilot episode has 11.2 million viewers across platforms and an avergae rating of1.94 in the key ad demographic over 35 days. Its seven-day audience, as measured by Nielsen, via The Hollywood Reporter, included 6.57 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in adults. According to Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney Branded Television, the success of the show and the other shows that air on Tuesday nights, “relies heavily on [the network’s] multi-platform strategy.”
Will Trent airs Tuesdays on ABC.
