ABC is teaming up with Grace Parra Janney (Solar Opposites) to develop a Mexican-American family comedy, drawing on inspiration from her own Texas family, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) will direct the potential pilot.
The untitled comedy would center around an upper-middle-class Mexican family in the process of handling the death of their patriarch and resultantly, re-evaluating each of their familial roles. A comedian and writer, Parra Janney has taken part in several popular and iconic comedies, both as a writer and as an actress. She contributed to Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore, CBS’ Broke, the 1995 film Glory Daze, Netflix’s BoJack Horseman, CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, NBC’s Superstore, and Netflix’s Master of None.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Josh’s work since our time together on telenovela and Grace and I share similar ‘Texican’ backgrounds,” Longoria said. “At Unbelievable we are always pushing to tell real and authentic stories, so I’m particularly proud to share one that is not unlike my own family’s experiences,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Josh Bycel (The Big Show Show) will work alongside Longoria and Parra Janney as an executive producer.
