Expect to see more of Eric Stonestreet on ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Toy Box has been picked up for a sophomore season.
The reality competition show features aspiring toy designers as they get the opportunity to present original toy inventions to a panel of adult professionals. If the toy is approved by the panel, the child panel checks out to toys in the “Toy Box.” One toy is selected into the finals at the end of each episode. The winning toys eventually compete against each other until there is one clear winner. The winning toy at the end of the season is produced and distributed by Mattel. The toy then becomes available for consumers to buy at all Toys “R” Us locations.
Modern Family‘s Stonestreet serves as host of the series. The professional panel consists of Jim Silver, Jen Tan, and Dylan’s Candy Bar owner Dylan Lauren. The child panel features Aalyrah Caldwell, Toby Grey, Noah Ritte, and Sophia Grace Brownlee. Brownlee is best known for her multiple appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, along with her cousin Rosie McClelland. The young girls eventually hosted a segment on the talk show called “Tea Time with Sophia Grace & Rosie,” in which they interview celebrities while drinking tea and eating snacks.
Hudsun Media and Electus co-developed the series, while Electus handles international distribution. The Toy Box is produced in partnership with Mattel.
The Toy Box is one of many reality shows to have joined the network in recent years. While reality television staples like The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, the currently suspended Bachelor in Paradise, and Dancing with the Stars are veteran shows for the network, it was just recently announced that ABC will revive American Idol in 2018. Other alternative shows to be featured on ABC’s lineup are Celebrity Family Feud, $100,000 Pyramid, To Tell the Truth, and the most recent show Steve Harvey’s Funderdome.
Two new alternative reality shows are set to premiere within the upcoming weeks on ABC. Boy Band, a singing competition with the prize of five winners completing a boy band, premieres on Thursday, June 22 at 8/7c. A revival of Battle of the Network Stars is set to premiere on the network on Thursday, June 29 at 9/8c. The series will include celebrities such as Charisma Carpenter, Taye Diggs, Vivica A. Fox, and Lou Ferrigno.
Not much is known about the upcoming season of The Toy Box. There is no tentative premiere date or a confirmed number of upcoming episodes.
