One of Marvel’s youngest heroes is coming to TV screens across America next month. According to Comicbook, Disney+’s hit series Ms. Marvel will make its broadcast debut on ABC in August. The limited series originally aired on the streamer in June of 2022. The announcement from the network comes in the wake of a newly-announced actor’s strike and during an ongoing strike from the Writer’s Guild of America.
Ms. Marvel stars newcomer Iman Vellani (The Marvels) as Kamala Khan, a Marvel Comics character created by Sana Amanat (Captain Marvel), Adrian Alphona (Runaways), Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine), and G. Willow Wilson (The Bird King). As Marvel’s first Muslim superhero, Kamala is a 16-year-old Jersey City Pakistani-American teen who obsessively adores superheroes, with Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel as her favorite. Her admiration for these masked crusaders keeps her dreaming big, much to her parents’ dismay who rather see their daughter focus on the normal things of life. Kamala’s life becomes anything but normal when she develops powers and becomes a hero for her community. But Kamala can’t help but wonder if the world is ready for a Brown girl like her to save the day.
In addition to Vellani, the series stars Nimra Bucha (Sarmad Khoosat’s Manto), Yasmeen Fletcher (Andi Mack), Matt Lintz (Pixels), Aramis Knight (Into the Badlands), Saagar Shaikh (Remember Mike), Rish Shah (Strangers), Zenobia Shroff (The Big Sick), Mohan Kapur (Coffee Bloom), Laith Nakli (Ramy), Azhar Usman (Patriot), Travina Springer (The Mule), and Anjali Bhimani (Don’t Wake Mommy).
The show, which according to Comicbook is one of the MCU’s highest-ranked projects after Avengers: Endgame via Rotten Tomatoes, will air its first three episodes on Saturday, August 5. The remaining three episodes will air a week later on August 12 beginning at 8 p.m. This is the second Disney+ series to land on broadcast television as Star Wars’s The Mandalorian aired in February ahead of its third season premiere.
Catching Ms. Marvel in August will prep new fans and diehards alike for her appearance in November’s The Marvels. The new film has Vellani’s Khan joining Brie Larson’s (Just Mercy) Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ (They Cloned Tyrone) Monica Rambeau in a new adventure.
All six episodes of Ms. Marvel are currently available to stream on Disney+.
