The Rookie is coming back to ABC for a seventh season! According to TVLine, the police drama series starring Nathan Fillion (Castle) has continued to see some promising numbers since its season six release.
As per TVLine, The Rookie has garnered over six million total viewers on average, a 0.6 demo rating, and Live+7 playback, which is down slightly from its fifth season.
TVLine notes that the series was recently switched to a new time on Tuesdays by the network. This time slot is a sort of “hammock” between Will Trent and the final season of The Good Doctor, which could be seen as a tougher time spot for views for the series.
Additionally, among the numerous drama series on ABC this season, TVLine notes that The Rookie is the number three series and follows behind 9-1-1 and Will Trent, respectively, in audience members and 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy, respectively, in demo. The Rookie is on a break until April 30 and only has four more episodes of the strike-shortened season left to air.
Winter said, “We always throw everything into a finale. There are a lot of reveals, and as far as Tim and Lucy [as portrayed by Melissa O’Neil (Dark Matter)], they have some fun stuff together — including another great action sequence that they get involved in.”
According to TVLine, Winter continued to say, “Everybody’s out for the team and supporting each other, and it ends in a really nice way. And as far as Tim and Lucy, it leaves a nice sort of, I wouldn’t say closure or a guarantee of anything, but it leaves it in a place where there’s stuff to talk about [in season seven].”
