ABC has renewed their hit comedy series, The Goldbergs, for their tenth season, according to Deadline. The show is now the longest running live-action comedy series currently on air.
The renewal was widely expected as ABC signed a new deal with Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids), one of the show’s stars and executive producers, in March, according to Deadline. McLendon-Covey is not the only original cast member to sign new deal as Sean Giambrone (The Emoji Movie), Troy Gentile (Nacho Libre) and Hayley Orrantia (Christmas Is Cancled) have also signed new deals to return to the show, Deadline also reported. Sam Lerner (Monster House) will also remain a series regular.
Sony TV, who produces The Goldbergs, has also signed new deals with Alex Barnow (Mr. Sunshine) and Chris Bishop (Breaking In) to continue as the series showrunners, Deadline reports. Adam F. Goldberg (Day Watch) created the show.
The show’s renewal comes after a challenging year for the comedy after losing two key cast members. George Segal (2012), who played Albert “Pops” Solomon, died in March 2021 of complications from bypass surgery. In December, Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), who played Murray Goldberg, left the series after multiple misconduct allegations that included human resources investigations, according to Deadline. Both were recurring characters on the show.
The Goldbergs remains one of ABC’s top comedies. The show airs on Wednesday nights and it remains the network’s top show on the night.
The Goldbergs is produced by Happy Madison and Doug Robinson Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television. Barnow, Bishop, McLendon-Covey, Annette Davis (Men At Work), Mike Sikowitz (The Class), Doug Robinson (Rules Of Engagment), and David Guarascio (Just Shoot Me!) executive produce the series.
The Goldbergs is far from the only ABC series to be renewed for next season. Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, Abbott Elementary, The Rookie and The Good Doctor have all recently received renewals from the network.
