ABC officially renewed Station 19 for a season seven. The firefighter-focused spinoff to Grey’s Anatomy will also see the exit of showrunner Krista Vernoff, but has Zoanne Clack (Grey’s Anatomy, Justice U) and Peter Paige (The Fosters, Good Trouble) taking Vernoff’s place, via The Hollywood Reporter.
The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff follows the original Grey’s character Ben Warren, played by Jason Winston George, (Fallen) as he transitions from his role as a surgeon to a firefighter. The critically acclaimed series follows Ben along with the other women and men of the firehouse and among the cast is Jaina Lee Ortiz (Rosewood), Grey Damon (The Possession of Hannah Grace), and Jay Hayden (State of Emergency).
Clack has been with Grey’s since its start. The emergency medicine doctor originally signed on as the show’s medical adviser. She became head writer and exec producer on Station 19 last year and remains in charge of all the medical aspects of the flagship show’s storylines. She said, via The Hollywood Reporter, “I feel incredibly honored to be entrusted with this dynamic and relevant show alongside Peter,”
Paige, meanwhile, joined Station 19 as a director in the fourth season of the show and was brought back as an executive producer in season six. He started his career as an actor and starred in Showtime’s iconic Queer as Folk before going on to co-create Freeform shows including The Fosters and its spinoff, Good Trouble. He said, via The Hollywood Reporter,“I’m beyond honored to be handed the reins to Station 19 — a show I love, full of incredible, complex characters, and resonant, important stories,” he said.
It is the latest renewal for ABC among The Good Doctor for season seven, Will Trent for its second season, The Rookie for its sixth season, Abbott Elementary for its third season in January and Grey’s last month.
The season six finale for Station 19 will air on May 18.
