ABC has ordered Tim Doyle comedy pilot. This is the first pilot that the network has ordered for this 2018-2019 season.
ABC has picked up an untitled half-hour comedy from writer and executive producer Tim Doyle. The single-camera comedy will be set in the 1970s and also hails from ABC Studios. The comedy will follow an Irish-Catholic family with a working-class father, traditional mother and eight lively sons navigating changes both big and small during one of America’s most turbulent decades.
Represented by CAA, Doyle serves as a consulting producer on another single-camera comedy, Speechless. His other credits include Imaginary Mary, Last Man Standing, Rules of Engagement, Better Off Ted, The Real O’Neals, The Big Bang Theory, Aliens in America, and Dr. Ken.
ABC’s most recent success in the comedy space include Black-ish and Speechless. ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungery explained, “With comedy, we’re going to continue to focus on family comedies because that is something that I think our audience really comes to ABC for. But at the same time, we’re going to continue to sort of push the boundaries of what a family comedy actually means. I think in both drama and comedy, we want storytelling that feels relevant, that feels authentic, that represents America.”
