Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) is rejoining the ABC family. According to Deadline, Hyland has been cast in the upcoming fairytale pilot Epic for the network.
Epic, according to Deadline, is set to be an anthology series following classic fairytales that are retold for a modern audience. The series comes from the minds behind past ABC fairytale drama Once Upon a Time, Adam Horowitz (producer, Lost) and Edward Kitsis (writer, Tron: Legacy).
Horowitz and Kitsis who co-created Once Upon a Time are executive producing Epic. Alongside them is Brigitte Hales (writer, Once Upon a Time), who wrote the pilot for Epic and is also attached as an executive producer, via Deadline. The pilot will be directed by James Griffiths (director, A Million Little Things).
Hyland is attached to the series as Rose, a typical princess waiting for her Prince Charming to lead her towards happily ever after. However, according to Deadline, she begins to have second thoughts before her fairytale wedding, leading her toward new opportunities as she clutches on to her goals. In addition to Hyland, Brittany O’Grady (Little Voice) is set to be the series’ star with Eleanor Fanyinka (Death in Paradise) also attached in an unannounced role, via Deadline.
Hyland is best known for her role as Haley Dunphy in ABC’s family mockumentary sitcom, Modern Family. Haley, the eldest of the Dunphy children, appeared in all eleven seasons of the sitcom, seeing her grow from a ditzy teenager to a loving wife and mother towards the end of the series. Reacting to the news of her casting over Twitter, Hyland used a GIF of Tina Fey from 30 Rock to express her excitement about the upcoming series.
According to Deadline, Epic is not set to premiere in the upcoming fall 2021 television season.
