ABC Developing New One-Hour Military Procedural Series ‘Devil’s Ranch’

Deadline reports that ABC is developing a new series, Devil’s Ranch, a one-hour military procedural from writer Rebecca Murga (Will Trent, Swagger). The drama follows a group of ex-military personnel who operate a ranch on the Texas-Mexico border daily and conduct various missions across the globe by night.

The network preemptively acquired Devil’s Ranch off a pitch from Murga. Heidi Cole McAdams (Stumptown, The 100) is set as showrunner and will executive produce alongside Trevor Engelson (Snowfall, Chasing the Sound) for Underground, with Underground’s Diego Rey (Down for the Barrio) serving as co-executive producer.

Murga is a military veteran with two completed tours in Afghanistan under her belt. She previously worked with ABC and 20th as a writer on the last two seasons of their popular police procedural, Will Trent. She’s also written for Apple TV+’s sports drama Swagger and has set up a coming-of-age ROTC drama at Amazon, which Spike Lee (She’s Gotta Have It, Rodney King) will direct and executive produce. That series is set in a rigorous ROTC military program at a major university, where students from all different walks of life push themselves to limits they never thought possible. Murga will write alongside Jalysa Conway (9-1-1: Lone Star, The Last Kids on Earth) and will also executive produce.

McAdams is best known as the co-creator, executive producer and co-showrunner of the Hulu mystery series Death and Other Details, starring Violett Beane (God Friended Me, The Resident) and Mandy Patinkin (The Good Fight, Homeland). She has developed TV projects under her overall deal with 20th Television since 2020, including projects set up at Disney+, Hulu, ABC Network, Freeform, Fox and Onyx Collective. Prior to her development pact, she was known for her writing on Intelligence and State of Affairs and also worked in development for Michael Seitzman’s Pictures and the Mark Gordon Company.

Murga is represented by Gersh and Underground, while McAdams is represented by UTA and Jeff Hynick at Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
