ABC’s new hit drama Stumptown is getting new cast member in Greek-American indie musician Ioanna Gika. Gika will join the network crime thriller as Fiona X. Little is currently known about the character. The singer announced the news in a tweet on Wednesday, stating, “I’ve been cast as Fiona X in ABC network crime drama series ‘Stumptown.’ Grateful for the welcoming cast and crew and a preying mantis hi-five to the studio for making this a green show. Not a single water bottle on set.”
Gika is known for her solo album Thalassa, which was released in April of this year, as well as her music with Leopold Ross as member of indie rock duo Io Echo. Hit songs from her most recent album include “Swan” and “Out of Focus.” Throughout her career, she has opened up for the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Garbage, and played festivals like SXSW and Coachella. Her role on Stumptown will mark her first appearance as an actor for a major TV show.
Stumptown follows an Afghan War veteran named Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders), who strives to pay off her gambling debts while helping to support her younger brother Ansel (Cole Sibus), who has Downs Syndrome. Unable to hold down a traditional job due to her struggles with PTSD, she turns to private detective work to make ends meet. In addition to Smulders and Sibus, the show’s core cast consists of Jake Johnson, Michael Early, Tantoo Cardinal, Adrian Martinez, and Camryn Manheim. ABC has yet to announce when Gika will appear in the freshman series. Stumptown began its run on September 25th, and is currently two episodes into its first season. According to TV by the Numbers, the show boasted 4.61 million viewers for its first episode.
Stumptown airs Wednesdays at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. Ioanna Gika’s solo album Thalassa is available now.
