According to Deadline, ABC has just cast Bethlehem Million (Sick, Flatbush Misdemeanors) as a leading role opposite Kennedy McMann (Nancy Drew, Tell Me Lies) and Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives, Transamerica) in The Good Doctor legal drama spinoff series, The Good Lawyer. Similar to The Good Doctor, the series will be produced by both Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature.
Million is a 2020 graduate of NYU’s School of Theater and is best known for her recurring roles in HBO Max’s And Just Like That and Showtime’s Flatbush Misdemeanors. She has recently seen her career taking off after landing the lead role in the latest Miramax picture, Sick and for her role as Emma in the upcoming indie film, Trim Season.
Million will also appear alongside both McMann and Huffman on The Good Doctor in the backdoor pilot episode, The Good Lawyer, which is set to premiere on March 6. The episode will be written by the series’ co-showrunners David Shore (House, Family Law) and Liz Friedman (Jessica Jones, Elementary) and will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (the Zombieland duology, the Venom duology).
In the upcoming episode, Dr. Shaun Murphy, the titular character of The Good Doctor played by Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), seeks legal representation in order to help him win a difficult case. Murphy’s quest eventually leads him to place his faith in Joni DeGroot (McMann), a young, auspicious lawyer who has obsessive compulsive disorder.
As written by Deadline, Million herself will portray the character of Abbie, Joni’s compassionate and sensible older sister (in real life, Bethlehem is actually believed to be slightly younger than McMann) who is also her biggest supporter, roommate, and best friend. The two siblings share a deep bond which was forged during childhood after both girls survived a less than idyllic homelife. Huffman is set to play the role of Janet, a partner at the law firm where Joni works.
