‘Abbott Elementary’ Becomes First ABC Comedy to Quadruple Ratings After Premiere

Quinta Brunson’s (A Black Lady Sketch Show) brand new mockumentary-style comedy, Abbot Elementary, is at the head of its class at ABC. According to Deadline, the half-hour series becomes the network’s first comedy to quadruple its ratings after its opener.

The series debuted in December, which earned a 0.6 rating in the 18-29 demographic and 2.79 million viewers. The series’s ratings shot up 300 percent after 35 days of viewing across ABC’s various viewing and digital platforms. Since the premiere, Abbot Elementary‘s premiere became the largest to grow from L+SD (Live+Same Day ratings) to MP35 (Multiplatform 35-day program) for any new comedy, via Deadline.

Created and written by Brunson, Abbot Elementary follows the teachers and staff of a Philadelphia school determined to better their students’ educations and lives, despite a slightly tone-deaf principal.

Brunson stars as the series’ lead, alongside Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha), Lisa Ann Walters (The Parent Trap), Janelle James (The Standups), and Chris Perfetti (Looking).

The series was well received by viewers and critics, with a 100 percent on RottenTomatoes. The series has topped shows such as Our Kind of People on Fox and FBI: International on CBS in its primetime slot. Tuesday night’s episode was viewed by 3.06 million viewers.

Abbot Elementary airs every Tuesday on ABC at 9 PM.
