While the new hit ABC comedy, Abbott Elementary, is currently on hiatus, the buzz around the show continues. According to Deadline, the show will be partnering with Scholastic on a campaign tour to provide schools with free book fairs.
The tour will take place from March 14 to March 18 with ABC and Scholastic providing book fairs to underfunded schools. Each student will receive two new books while teachers will receive 10. Teachers will receive free swag from the show as well.
Written by and starring Quinta Brunson (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary that follows the faculty of an underfunded Philadelphia school. The teachers and staff at Abbott are determined to better their students’ educations and lives, despite a lackluster, slightly tone-deaf principal.
Brunson plays Janine Teagues, an enthusiastic, yet naive second-grade teacher who does her best to support the students of Abbott. The series also stars Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha), Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris), Lisa Ann Walter (The Parent Trap), Chris Perfetti (The Surrogate), and Janelle James (The Standups) as Janine’s colleagues.
The series was met with critical acclaim, and it has recently surpassed the Modern Family finale for the highest-rated comedy episode on ABC. The series also became the first ABC comedy to quadruple ratings after its premiere.
Abbott Elementary will return on March 22 on ABC.
