Amazon MGM Studios has started to ramp up production on their live-action series based on the video game Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which will be directed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). In an interview with Deadline back in May, Waller-Bridge stated, “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.” She will surely bring her signature wit and humor into the upcoming series, promising a fresh perspective on the character that resonates with the new generation..
Tomb Raider is a cultural phenomenon that inspired numerous games, movies and the recent animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. The new series will be executively produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins (Killing Eve) through Wells Street Productions, as well as DJ2 Entertainment’s Dmitri M. Johnson (It Takes Two), Michael Scheel (Unknown) and countless other supporters.
According to Deadline, the company has assembled a list of potential actresses who will play the renowned archeologist character. Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) and Lucy Boynton (Barbie) were among the names. Turner is well known for her role as Sansa Stark in the Game of Thrones series, and her strong ability to convey strong emotions on command makes her a strong candidate for the role. On the other hand, Boynton’s acting prowess is no slouch either, as she has captivated the audience with her portrayal of Mary Austin in Bohemian Rhapsody.
According to Deadline, whether Amazon MGM Studios and Waller-Bridge decide to move forward with Turner, Boynton or another actress, this series will surely contain intense action and engaging narrative that will captivate the audience and leave them on the edge of their seats. The series’ plot remains under wraps but will surely follow the same format as in the game, in which Lara Croft fights against evil forces and preserves ancient artifacts.
