A new TV lineup is coming to all Spectrum customers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spectrum has announced the signing of the new deal with Disney. These negotiations date back to 2023 when Disney and its channels (including ESPN and ABC) went “dark” for Spectrum customers. Now, it is reported that Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ will be included in the Spectrum select tier lineup. This new deal will bring eight channels to the lineup, including Freeform, FXX, Nat Geo Wild, and Disney Junior.
Even though the terms of this deal were not disclosed, the companies might have negotiated to trade off involving the subscriber fees with more advertising options. Dana Walden who is the co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, recently told The Hollywood Reporter, “I think if we’re learning anything in this moment, it is that we need to remain flexible, that these models are changing rapidly that keeping up with technology and the consumer means we have to stay flexible and agile.”
With marketing efforts from both sides, the streaming channel and the cable company will start to offer incentives for the Disney streaming service as well as Spectrum, offering upgrade options to new and existing customers for access to the ad-free tiers, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
“With the addition of Hulu and the return of our full portfolio of channels, we’re pleased to expand and extend out agreement with Charter — delivering the most robust and valuable combination of linear and streaming entertainment for years to come,” added Sean Breem, executive VP of Disney Platform Distribution, via The Hollywood Reporter. “This agreement reflects our continued focus on leaning into the strength of Disney’s best-in-class programming across every genre and platform—and our shared commitment with Charter to building innovative, consumer-focused distribution models that drive value across the board.”
THR reports the new services are expected to be available to customers late this summer and early fall.
