Sunday night’s 71st Primetime Emmy Awards was big for HBO, Netflix, and Amazon. HBO secured the top spot with the most wins for the night (9) as the network battled head to head with Netflix (4). Including results from last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys and Sunday’s event, HBO led with 34 wins and Netflix came in second place with 27.
Game of Thrones took home the Best Drama Series win, as expected, but in a surprising turn of events, Fleabag beat out favorited Veep for Best Comedy Series. Bill Hader won an Emmy for Lead Actor in Comedy Series for Barry – his second award for the role. Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was also acknowledged with two wins for Alex Borstein in Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and for Tony Shalhoub in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
