According to Deadline, FX is moving forward with Snowfall and has ordered 10-episodes for the series. The drama, which comes from John Singleton was inspired by the early days of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. The series was picked up after the cable network viewed the second pilot for the project. The original pilot was shown last year. The first pilot was written and executive produced by Boyz N The Hood director Singleton and Eric Amadio.
Dave Andron was later brought in the project as executive producer and showrunner. He co-wrote the new pilot with Singleton and Amadio. The show was directed by the Belgian directing team of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Black, Image), with veteran Thomas Schlamme assisting as executive producer. In addition, there were some casting changes, with new actors brought in alongside returning leads Sergio Peris-Mencheta and Damson Idris.
In a statement, FX’s Nick Grad said “Dave Andron, Tommy Schlamme, John Singleton and Eric Amadio have delivered a riveting and beautiful pilot and we can’t wait to start work on the series.” Snowfall is an hourlong drama set just before the crack cocaine epidemic becomes a major problem in the city of L.A. The series follows multiple characters on a violent collision course. These individuals include Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), a Mexican wrestler caught up in a power struggle within a crime family; Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), a CIA operative running from a dark past who begins an off-book operation to fund the Nicaraguan Contras; and Lucia Villanueva (Emily Rios), the self-possessed daughter of a Mexican crime lord.
Dave Andron will be the showrunner for Snowfall and will produce alongside Thomas Schlamme, John Singleton, Eric Amadio, Michael London, Trevor Engelson, and Evan Silverberg is producer. The FX Prods. Series will officially begin production in October with a 2017 premiere. Some of the other FX drama pilots that underwent rewrites, reshoots, and sometime recastings include Sons of Anarchy, Justified and Rescue Me.
