According to Deadline, the Neilson shared data from the 83nd Golden Globe award show which just aired on CBS. The data showed a decrease in the viewers. 8.66 Million viewers tuned in to watch the show live. This was a 7% decrease from last year. Since the 2023 telecast took an all time low in their viewership dipping to 6.3M views. Deadline noted that the Golden Globes were at 18.3M viewers in 2020.
Deadline also compared to how The Golden Globes to other award shows this year and previous years. The views this year were higher than the 2025 Emmys but lower than the Oscars in just last year in 2024. The Emmy’s averaged at 7.42M whereas the Oscars were averaging at 19.3M viewers last year. One reason for the decline is the air time placement. CBS telecasted the The Golden Globes this last Sunday. The Telecast was after the NFL game. Because of the time space from the end of the game to the beginning of the show this allowed some viewers to have the availability to switch the channels to see what other programs there was to watch.
The NFL season can be a blessing and a curse as deadline explains. For a show to follow immediately after a game is a blessing, since the show will benefit from the football game viewers. In this case, the award show did not only not immediately follow the start time, but Fox and NBC was also telecasting the a divisional Playoff game as well.
Paramount noted to Deadline that there was plenty of talk online about the Golden Globes. In fact the online chatter was up 5% from last year. Paramount stated that there were over 43M interactions this year. The red carpet live reshow averaged 3.4M viewers, according to the Neilson ratings.
Deadline also noted the full list of winner from The Golden Globes 2026.
