George Pennacchio (General Hospital, Splendor) is interviewing multiple actors about their experience on the shows they are a part of, their thoughts on rumors, details for upcoming seasons and future projects. Fashion expert Roshumba Williams (Mortal Kombat: Conquest, Hair Show) is reviewing and adding commentary to actors, the Television Academy Active and Associate members and nominee’s outfits.
Will Reeve (Everyone’s Hero, Superman) and Robin Roberts (Good Morning America, He Got Game) jump in, interviewing FX’s The Bear actors Lionel Boyce (The Jellies, Motor City), Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms, Inside Out 2), musician Jelly Roll, showrunner of Shogun Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samuri, Mortal Kombat) and many others about their experience on their shows and the Emmys. Jelly Roll is the first country music star to attend the Emmys and has had a positive experience so far.

Dan and Eugene Levy have an interview before going onstage. Eugene states he is excited, while Dan is anxious. The hosts share their experiences receiving their seven 2020 Emmy Awards on their show Schitt’s Creek, stating their utter shock. They are privileged to have this hosting opportunity.

The show has officially started! Dan and Eugene take the stage as Dan welcomes everyone to the 76th Annual Emmys while cracking jokes about his misspelled last name and the event itself. Eugene cracks a joke about being a dad to Dan in the show Schitt’s Creek, which allowed him to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. They state history while also jabbing jokes about actors and their characters, such as The Crown‘s affair. Shogun, Baby Reindeer and Reservation Dogs were mentioned for multiple award nominations. The first presenters are Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place, Monte Carlo), Steve Martin (Father of the Bride, Little Shop of Horrors) and Martin Short (The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Barbie as the Princess and The Pauper); where Martin and Short overlap each other talking and make sarcastic jokes about watching the actor’s shows, even though they haven’t. They are presenting Outstanding Supporting Character in a Comedy Series award, which ends up being The Bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls, No Hard Feelings).
Presented by Collin Farrell (The Batman, The Penguin), the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series is next, which was won by Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Watchmen) for The Morning Show.

After the break, the Levys discuss Television Dads, which leads to the presenters George Lopez (Blue Beetle, Rio), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family, Ugly Betty), and Damon Wayans (My Wife and Kids, Lethal Weapon), making Jeremy Allen White (Shameless, The Iron Claw) the winner of Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Micks) and Rob McElhenney(Lost, Fargo) are next to present for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, won by Liza Colon-Zayas (IF, Allswell in New York).

Elizabeth Debiki (The Great Gatsby, MaXXXine) wins Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Crown. The star of Hack’s Jean Smart (Babylon, Fargo) was awarded for the Outstanding Lead actress in a Comedy Series, presented by Candice Bergen (Sex and the City, Bride Wars).

Padma Latshmi (Top Chef, Planet Food) was teased for her previous 17 nominations for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, which was given to The Traitors. The Levys have a three-minute-long joke where they are in separate parts of the crowd. Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Do The Right Thing), Anthony Starr (The Boys, Cobweb) and Kathy Bates (The Office, Titanic) had a monologue about their experience as villains before presenting the Best Supporting Actress for Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The Emmy went to Jessica Gunning (Pride, The Outlaws) for her role in Baby Reindeer.

Maya Rudolf (Grown Ups, Big Hero 6), Kristen Wig (Bridesmaids, The Looney Tunes Show), Seth Meyers (The Awesomes, MacGruber) and Bowen Yang are next to announce the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, awarded to Alex Edelman (Unfrosted, Just for Us).

Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood), Connie Britton (The White Lotus, American Horror Story) and Meredith Baxter (Family, Bridget Loves Bernie) present a montage as they three represent Television Moms and the mothers’ progression in television history. They then present the award for Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series, which was handed out to Lucia Aniello (Rough Night, Time Traveling Bong), Paul W. Downs (Broad City, Like Father) and Jen Statsky (The Good Place, Parks and Recreations) for writing their show Hacks and for the episode “Bulletproof.” Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally, Monsters INC.) shares his first impressions of the nominees for the Outstanding Talk Series, which was awarded to The Daily Show.

Prsenters Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls) and Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer, Walking Hour) are introduced for the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award. Coughlan makes a joke about hosting an award for supporting animals in film and television. Mau kindly corrected her that the award is for Supporting Actors, not pets. The award given to Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Saturday Night) for Fargo shortly after. Mekhi Phifer (8 Mile, Divergent), Mindy Kahling (The Mindy Project, The Office) and Zach Braff (Scrubs, Cheaper By The Dozen) speak on why they chose to work in hospital settings for their television shows. They presented the award for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series, which was presented to Will Smith (Paddington, The Thick of it) for Slow Horses and the episode “Negotiating With Tigers.” Smith made a joke about his name and coming in peace, referencing the slap he gave to Chris Rock (Everybody Hates Chris, Grown Ups) to defend his wife, Jada Pickett Smith (Girls Trip, Set It Off).

Ron Howard (Happy Days, How The Grinch Stole Christmas) and Henry Winkler (Here Comes The Boom, Barry) froze for a moment before announcing the winner of Outstanding Directing For A Comedy series, bestowed to Christopher Storer (Eight Grade, The Rental) for the episode “Fishes” on The Bear.

John Leguizamo (Encantó, Chef) gave a speech about representation in Latino communities and gave a shoutout to nominees such as Selena Gomez, Sofia Vergara (Griselda, Modern Family), Nava Mau and Liza Colon-Zayas. He then formally presents Chair of Television Academy Cris Abrego (Daisy Of Love, Strange Love), who touches on highlighting diversity and making people feel seen on television. Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, Riverdale) was immediately awarded The Governors Award for his impact in the LGBTQ+ representation, from showing the first same-sex kiss to same-sex marriage on screen.

Jodie Foster (Freaky Friday, Black Mirror) won Lead Actress Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for True Detective: Night Country. Baby Reindeer has won four Emmys, their fourth being a win for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

TV Lawyers Gina Torres (Suits, Firefly), Christine Baranski (How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Mamma Mia!) and Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder, The Help) spoke before setting forth the Outstanding Lead Actress award for a Drama Series given to Anna Sawai (Fast X, Ninja Assassin). Martin Sheen (Frank And Gracie, Wall Street), Dule Hill (Psyche, Holes), Janel Moloney (Brotherhood, Concussion), Richard Schiff (The Good Doctor, Wakanda Forever) and Allison Janney (10 Things I Hate About You, Juno) gave the award to the show Shogun for the Outstanding Drama Series. Annie Murphy (Russian Doll, Nine Perfect Strangers) and Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas) join the Levys as O’Hara releases the last category of Outstanding Comedy Series, which was awarded to Hacks.
