A most recent The Hollywood Reporter article announced that Karla Sofía Gascón (Rebelde, El Señor de los Cielos) tops the list of nominees for the 2024 Golden Globes for her role as Emilia Pérez in the film of the same name. The film tops the list of film nominees with 10 nominations, followed by The Brutalist, Conclave, Anora and The Substance. The Bear leads the nominations in television, with Only Murders in the Building and Shogun trailing behind.
The nominees were announced during a live press conference at the Beverly Hilton on Monday morning.
This achievement breaks the previous record held by a comedy or musical motion picture, surpassing Barbie, which secured nine nominations last year.
In television, The Bear leads with five nominations, while Only Murders in the Building and Shogun each receive four.
These shows have received a lot of attention, most likely in each episode, which makes the show stand out each time and increases their views.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Netflix leads all streaming platforms with 26 nominations, 13 for film and 13 for TV.
Mindy Kaling (The Sex Lives of College Girls, The Mindy Project) and Morris Chestnut (Watson, The Best Man: The Final Chapters) unveiled the nominees across 27 categories during a live stream on CBS News’ website, YouTube channel and mobile app.
The Golden Globes honors achievements in film and TV. Categories recognize cinematic and box office success in film and standout performances in stand-up comedy on television. The latter category, introduced last year, will return this year, The Hollywood Reporter notes
This year, the Golden Globes has teamed up with data company Luminate, a subsidiary of Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge that also owns The Hollywood Reporter and Dick Clark Productions, the producer and owner of the Globes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Luminate will supply streaming viewership data for all films submitted in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement categories, with analysis conducted through Luminate’s Streaming Viewership product.
The best performance in stand-up comedy on television category honors comedians who deliver “performances of traditional stand-up comedy lasting at least 30 consecutive minutes, excluding roles in television series, limited series, anthology series, or made-for-TV movies,” according to the Golden Globes’ eligibility rules. These performances must be presented on a “recognized media platform,” according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.
The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live from the Beverly Hilton on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
Nikki Glaser (Trainwreck, I Feel Pretty) will host the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, with Emmy-winning producer Glenn Weiss (The 65th Annual Tony Awards, The 2020 Oscars), who is also an award show extraordinaire and Ricky Kirshner (The 61st Annual Tony Awards, The 70th Annual Tony Awards) returning as showrunners for the second consecutive year, The Hollywood Reporter reports. It was previously announced that Viola Davis (The Help, How to Get Away with Murder) will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Ted Danson (The Good Place, CSI) will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award, recognizing excellence in television. Both Glaser and Danson also received nominations on Monday morning.
The 2025 ceremony will mark the second consecutive Golden Globes to air on CBS, following the network’s five-year deal with the awards show.
This will also be the second Golden Globes since the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) was replaced after Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge acquired all of its assets, rights and properties. Dick Clark Productions now owns and produces the Golden Globe Awards.
In place of the HFPA, a racially and ethnically diverse group of voters—comprising journalists from countries around the world—now selects the nominees and winners.
