According to ComicBook Holes is getting rebooted not as an movie but as a tv series. Disney+ has ordered for a pilot of a new adaptation of the 1998 novel author Louis Sachar which turned into a film in 2003. The movie starred Shia LeBeouf (Even Stevens Transformers ) , Sigourney Weaver(Ghostbusters, Avatar ), and Jon Voight (Mindnight Cowboy Anaconda) , Alina Mankin( Shivers, Agent Red) . The offlical Loglinr : “In this reimaging of the beloved 1998 book from Louis Sachar a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose”.
Both the novel and the film follow Stanley Yelnats IV a good kid cursed because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Even though he is innocent of a crime he is convicted and sent off to a boys dentition center at Camp Green Lake : a dry fat wasteland that was once the largest lake in Texas.
Stanley aka Caveman by his fellow campers Zero, Squid, X-Ray, magnet, Armpit, and ZigZag. Stanley is ordered by the Warden to dig holes to “build character”. The campers dig five feet deep and five feet wide. Stanley soon finds out that the Warden , Mr.Sir, and Mr. Pendanski are looking for something: something that belonged to the infamous outlaw Kissin Kate Barlow.
Goddard told Variety “My mom’s been a schoolteacher for her whole life and, as such, she’s served as a de facto book scout for Goddard Textiles. She always knows what ‘the kids’ are into long before everyone else does. Holes was the first book she suggested to me — this was back in the late ‘90s — and she was positive it was going to be a phenomenon. It feels good to bring it full circle for Mrs. Goddard and her sixth grade class.”
Goddard added that Mankin , who has been credited from episodes of The Mindy Project , Anne with an E and Phang a writer have done a wonderful job capturing Louis Sachar’s unique spirit. To say much more about what they have in store would spoil all the fun.”
Walden Media who produce the original Holes will be producing the pilot. Mike Medavoy who also produced on a film via production company Phoenix Pictures will executive produce with right holder Shamrock executive producing. Andera Massaro, a producer of the Goddard-created Hulu series High Potential is an executive producer for Goddard Textile (Bad Times at the El Royale, the upcoming The Matrix 5). All of these producers and companies will take part of the project and series that will stream on Disney+ .
