Per Deadline, Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming limited series, Zero Day. The show will star Robert De Niro (Nada, The Wizard of Lies) as a former U.S. president who is pulled out of retirement to investigate a nationwide cyber-attack.
The series, which is created and executive produced by Eric Newman (Cowboy Cartel, Griselda), Noah Oppenheim (My Generation, Model America) and Michael S. Schmidt (Kasie DC, The Weekly), will center around former U.S. President George Mullen, portrayed by De Niro. As head of the Zero Day Commission, he is tasked with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber-attack that has caused chaos around the country, along with thousands of fatalities. As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers across multiple industries collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.
Zero Day includes Angela Bassett (9-1-1, What If…?), Lizzy Caplan (Fatal Attraction, Party Down), Jesse Plemons (Love & Death, Fargo), Joan Allen (Lisey’s Story, The Family), Connie Britton (Dear Edward, Pandemica), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things, Sanctuary), Dan Stevens (The Milk Chug, Solar Opposites), Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent, A Man in Full), Gaby Hoffmann (Eric, Transparent) and Clark Gregg (Snowpiercer, Criminal Minds).
In the trailer, Bassett’s character, President Mitchell, tells De Niro’s Mullen, “People believe what they need to believe. The truth is the truth, but it’s not always the most important thing.”
Zero Day is written by Newman and Oppenheim, with Lesli Linka Glatter (The Morning Show, Homeland) serving as executive producer and director of all six episodes. Schmidt also serves as writer and executive producer, with De Niro and Jonathan Glickman (Wednesday) serving as executive producers. Eli Attie (The Diplomat, Billions), Amy Herman (City on a Hill, Paterno), Peter Oberth (The Twilight Zone, Chance) and Robert Patino (DMZ, Westworld) will also executive produce.
