The second season of the spinoff series Castlevania: Nocturne announced an early 2025 release during Netflix’s Geeked Week. Yesterday, the video game adaptation unleashed its first full trailer for the upcoming season set to premiere on January 16. View the action-packed trailer below.
Season two resumes with our motley crew of terror hunters battling a self-proclaimed deity vampire who seeks to eclipse the earth in perpetual night. Once again humanity’s only hope lies in the weapons of another Belmont.
According to Tudum by Netflix, the second season will have many season one characters return, including the Belmont descendent, Richter, his cousin, Maria, the freedom fighter Annette, and her beloved friend Eduoard. Richter’s aunt, Tera, also returns, but her sacrifice has made her a minion of Erzsebet Báthory, the Vampire Messiah. While they may have lost Tera’s powers, team Belmont has gained the blade and fury of Alucard, Dracula’s half-breed son.
“Alucard is going to lead Richter and Annette to Paris to try and find the last element that would allow Erzsebet to achieve the full power of Sekhmet and become even more powerful than she was in Season 1,” said co-showrunner Kevin Kolde (Adventure Time, Boo Boo and the Man) in the press release. Kolde added that Alucard will serve as a somewhat mentor to the younger Richter and Annette.
Co-showrunner Clive Bradley (The Killing Gene, Runt) stated fans are enamored with the character of Alucard due to his nature of being half-human and half-vampire.
“He’s half vampire — he has some of the powers of a vampire, but [he’s] not a vampire — so he inhabits that twilight world [with a] foot in both camps,” Bradley said via the press release. He described the vampire prince as “mysterious, charismatic, and powerful.”
Castlevania: Nocturne’s stellar cast includes Edward Bluemel (The Commuter, The Halcyon) as Ritcher Belmont, Pixie Davies (Mary Poppins Returns, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) as Maria, Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King, The Underground Railroad) as Annette, Sydney James Harcourt (I’m Not Gay: A Musical, Hamilton) as Edouard, Nastassja Kinski (Cat People, Paris) as Tera, and James Callis (Slow Horses, Battlestar Galactica) as Alucard.
In addition to the main characters, the trailer displayed the return of Elarica Johnson’s (P-Valley, AfterDeath) Doltra, the fierce vampire Seargent serving Franka Potente’s (Run Lola Run, The Bourne Identity) Erzsebet Báthory. We also see Zahn McClarnon’s (Dark Winds, Fargo) Olrox, the Indigenous vampire who killed Richter’s mother when he was a child. The rest of the cast is rounded out with Richard Dormer (Blue Lights, The Day of the Jackal) Aaron Neil (Five Days, Peaky Blinders), and Iain Glen (The Rig, Silo).
Season one of Castlevania: Nocturne is available to stream on Netflix and purchase on DVD. Season two arrives on January 16, 2025.
