The new crime thriller, Cross, is an international hit for Prime Video. Deadline reports the Aldis Hodge-led series tallied 40 million viewers in its first 20 days globally. Amazon states those numbers place the series just behind the second season of Rings of Power and the video game adaptation, Fallout. Those series amassed 40 and 65 million within 11 and 16 days, respectively.
According to Deadline, Amazon most likely uses a tally of active household subscribers to estimate this number, as there is no quantitative way to record an actual view that has occurred. However, Amazon posits the series as a top global hit, landing at No. 1 in over 100 countries including Canada, Brazil, the UK, Germany, and Spain. Fifty-five percent of the audience has been international.
The series from creator Ben Watkins (Burn Notice, Hand of God) is based on the character from James Patterson’s (1st to Die, The Murder Inn) novels. In this new adaptation, Hodge’s (Black Adam, City on a Hill) Alex Cross is a member of the Metro Police Department in Washington D.C. In addition to being a detective, he’s a forensic psychologist whose ability to profile the most heinous criminals makes him an expert in catching the most dangerous threats. Season one of the series finds Cross tracking an elusive serial killer paying homage to infamous murderers. While he races time to stop this threat, demons from his past resurface as a stalker targets his family.
Produced by Paramount Television and Skydance Television, Cross also stars Ryan Eggold (New Amsterdam, The Blacklist), Isaiah Mustafa (It Chapter Two, Shadowhunters), Alona Tal (SEAL Team, Broke City), and Samantha Walkes (The Kings of Napa, Deadly Estate).
According to Deadline, Neilsen should have data on the series’ premiere week performance soon. All eight episodes were released at once on November 14. Overall, the series has bolded well and should continue to see success as a second season was picked up months before the season premiere.
