According to Deadline, Jana Kramer (Click, Heart of the Country) hopes to return as Alex Dupre in the One Tree Hill sequel series. Alex appeared in the final three seasons of the original show on the CW. Sophia Bush (John Tucker Must Die, Incredibles 2) and Hilarie Burton (The Walking Dead, Dawson’s Creek) will be executive producers and will also return to their roles in the upcoming series. The show was created by Becky Hartman Edwards (Sex and the City, Firefly Lane) and Warner Bros. TV.
Kramer was interviewed by E! News to talk about her thoughts on her character and wanting to return. “They’re gonna get their footing of the show but I think they’re open to bringing back characters. So, I hope I get the opportunity, it sounds like there’s a window for that. I’m ready if it comes calling.”
“I feel like there’s so much of Alex that’s a piece of me,” she said after telling E! she loves seeing characters reappear in sequel series. “Though I didn’t go through some of the things she went through, I’ve had harder times, too. So, I want to believe that she’s done some healing work but she’s still who she is, she still causes a little bit of a stir.”
Per Deadline, Kramer talked with Burton about bringing Alex back to TV on her Whine Down podcast. “We had discussed it before the news broke… It was probably a month or so ago,” she said, adding “I think their intention is to bring back people that make sense. And Hilarie was like, ‘I never got to meet Alex, so it’d be fun to have us meet.’ And I’m like, ‘I would love that. Sign me up.’”
Along with Burton and Bush, Danneel Ackles (Supernatural, The Roommate), who is reprising her role as Rachel Scott, and Jensen Ackles (Rust, The Boys) are executive producers. Emily Moss Wilson (Missing Daughter, Inheritance) is producing.
The One Tree Hill sequel series takes place twenty years after the original and focuses on Brooke and Peyton, who are now parents and, like in the original show, face challenges of insecurity, love and grief.
