According to Collider, Paramount Network’s Yellowstone will be airing the second part of the fifth season but this time around The Dutton family will be missing the patriarch of the series. Kevin Costner (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Highwaymen) who plays John Dutton left the series before production in the last few episodes. His absence has been felt by many on the series Luke Grimes (Fifty Shades of Grey, Happiness for Beginners) in particular spoke about the actor’s absence on set. Grimes played Kayce Dutton since the show’s inception and has been on the series set many times with Costner. Grimes spoke with People about how filming the last few episodes felt and how the mood on set was without Costner.
Grimes said, “Him not coming back felt like, ‘Okay, we’re going to have to land this plane now for real.'”
“I think the patriarch leaving was always going to be part of the story,” he added, “That’s always where it was headed is like, what do these kids do? What does this family do when their rock is gone?”
As per Collider, Grimes also teased the conflicts The Dutton children face throughout the last few episodes of the season now that their father is no longer there. Grimes said “He’s a big presence, man, guy’s an icon. So not having him around to set felt a little different. But as always, I mean, we’re a big family now. It was just as special and hopefully, the fans will be able to connect with the story just as much … I think they will be able to.”
Yellowstone follows The Dutton family who are the owners of the largest ranch in Montana. the series revolves around family drama at the ranch and the bordering Broken Rock Indian Reservation.
The last few episodes of season 5 of Yellowstone air on Sunday, November 10 on the Paramount Network. The series is available to stream on Peacock and Hulu.
