Since it was first announced that Daredevil would be getting a revival on Disney+, fans have speculated whether or not Daredevil: Born Again will be as violent as its acclaimed Netflix predecessor. According to Brad Winderbaum (Black Widow, Ant-Man), the head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, it just might be.
“I’ll tell you, some of the most brutal action we’ve ever brought to the screen is coming in Daredevil: Born Again, which isn’t a horror show, but really it packs a lot of power and there’s a lot of visceral action, to say the least,” Winderbaum said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Winderbaum’s comments were made as part of a discussion about how Marvel’s television shows experiment with genre. He compared how Daredevil: Born Again leans into action to how Marvel’s next series, Agatha All Along, leans into the horror genre. However, Winderbaum made it clear that not all Marvel projects with a shared genre will feel the same.
“I think that it goes back to the filmmaker’s intent,” he continued via Entertainment Weekly. “The horror on screen in Agatha is going to be different than the horror on screen in Marvel Zombies, is going to be different than the horror on screen in Blade. It was different than the horror on screen in Moon Knight. It really depends on the vision of the filmmaker on what horror cues you’re pulling from. And that’s not just unique to horror. It’s unique to any genre we’re playing with. Obviously, there’s many different ways to tell a story.”
Agatha All Along debuts September 18 on Disney+. As for Daredevil: Born Again, it is slated for a March 2025 release.
Daredevil: Born Again serves as a continuation of the canceled Netflix series and will see the return of its core cast: Charlie Cox (The Defenders, Kin) as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio (Echo, Men in Black) as Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, Escape Room) as Karen Page, Elden Henson (The Mighty Ducks, The Mighty) as Foggy Nelson and Jon Bernthal (The Bear, The Punisher) as the Punisher.
