In May 2024, Marvel announced their WandaVision spinoff series, Agatha All Along, via mxdwn. While Marvel is inviting fans back into the colliding world of superheroes and witches for the show’s September release, Disney debuted a new trailer that gives a new look into Joe Locke’s (Heartstopper, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street) character.
Previously, Locke shared that his character would star as an assistant-type character, aiding protagonist Agatha Harkness’ rag-tag witch coven, according to mxdwn. However, Locke’s role in the series maintained an element of secrecy during production, with his character being referred to as “Teen” in the scripts. With such mystery surrounding his character, Locke was able to share that “Teen is a big fan of witchcraft and witches, so for him to be taken under Agatha Harkness’ wing and form a coven and go down the Witches’ Road is his dream. He’s fanboy-esque, and in his element. Which is very fun — because I was [too]!”
In Marvel’s newest trailer, Locke’s character continues to maintain an air of mystery around himself. The trailer opens with Teen explaining to Agatha, played by Katheryn Hahn (WandaVision, Tiny Beautiful Things), that he has been obsessively researching and admiring her work. Teen uses his appreciation for Agatha as “the reason I saved you from the spell you were under,” referring to Wanda Maximoff’s curse placed on Agatha in the finale of WandaVision. He plants the idea for Agatha to journey on the elusive Witches Road, but when Agatha asks Teen, “Who are you?” a cursive closure moves over his lips to prevent him from revealing his name.
According to theories from Comicbook.com, Locke’s character being unable to speak his name leads to speculations that he is under a spell, and if so, who’s spell could it be? Comicbook.com mentions the familiar look on the cursive closure, which flashes over Teen’s lips when he tries to speak his name, saying it looks like the “M” of Wanda Maximoff’s signature. While the trailer only teases Teen’s ties to the powerful Wanda Maximoff, fans will have to watch Agatha All Along to get the full reveal of Locke’s character.
Agatha All Along premieres September 18 exclusively on Disney+, as per mxdwn.
