According to Deadline, Stranger Things: The First Shadow will be making its way to Broadway, and a new trailer for the play has been revealed. Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions announced the production will begin previews at the Marquis Theatre on Friday, March 28, 2025 with the official opening on April 22.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow is based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers (We All Fall Down), Jack Thorne (Wonder) and Kate Trefry (Drive). The play follows the mythology of Netflix’s Stranger Things. It is directed by Stephen Daldry (The Reader) and co-director Justin Martin (The Soloist).

As per Deadline, the official synopsis for the show is as follows: Before the world turned upside down. Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy…and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.
According to Deadline, The following roles are still up for grabs for the production Henry Creel, Patty Newby, Joyce Moldonado, James Hopper Jr., Bob Newby, Dr. Brenner, Victor Creel, Virginia Creel, Chief Hopper, Lonnie Byers, Walter Henderson, Alan Munson, Charles Sinclair, Ted Wheeler, Sue Anderson, Karen Childress, Claudia Henderson and Alice Creel. The current casting for Broadway has not been announced.
The West End production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow won two Oliver Awards in 2024. The awards were for Best Entertainment Play and Best Set Design. It is a stand-alone play that feels like a prequel to the Stranger Things story as it shows the beginnings of the lore of the Duffer Brothers created universe.
