TVLine has reported that Mr. and Mrs. Smith, an upcoming program on Amazon Prime Video will premiere on Friday, this upcoming February 2nd. It will have eight episodes which will drop all at the same time on this day. The show will be a reimagining of the 2005 film with the same name, which had starred Brad Pitt (Fight Club) and Angelina Jolie (Eternals).
TVLine also cited the official synopsis, saying that “In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”
The show comes from co-creators and executive producers Donald Glover (Swarm) and Francesca Sloane (Fargo). Glover also stars as one of the main characters in the show, playing John Smith. Meanwhile, Jane Smith is played by Maya Erskine, says TVLine. This is Glover’s second show for Amazon Prime Video, following after the limited series Swarm, which was streamed this past March.
The multi-episode remake of the original movie was originally meant to stream this month, which was the timeframe leaked in a Prime Day sneak peak, however it was pushed back to early 2024 this past September. Originally, Amazon didn’t provide a reason for the push-back, but it came directly after the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild went on strike. During this time, both groups were unable to promote any of their projects, according to TVLine.
