The new genre-bending comedy The Curse starring Nathan Fielder (Nathan For You, The Rehearsal) and Emma Stone (La La Land, Easy A) has set a premiere date along with releasing the first teaser trailer. While Showtime revealed that the first three episodes will be screened at the New York Film Festival on Thursday, October 12, the full series will be available on Paramount+ on November 10, and then make its linear debut on Showtime on November 12.
The Curse is a series about a newly married couple co-starring in a new home improvement show. As they continue to create said show, and also try to conceive a child, the relationship gets tested by an alleged curse. The series will star Fielder and Stone as the couple, but will also star Benny Safdie (Oppenheimer) along with Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), Corbin Bernsen (Psych), and Constance Shulman (Orange Is The New Black) appearing as guest stars. Showtime released the series’ first teaser trailer on Wednesday, September 27, following some featured first-look images.
The teaser trailer shows Stone and Fielder doing several takes for the introduction of what seems to be the show their characters are creating. Stone says the line, “Did you know you can put out fires with the sun?” with Fielder responding “No way.” Stone then responds “Way, we’re here today with brave men and women of the Espanola fire department to show them how a few tiny changes to their station can make passive energy the newest recruit on their squad.” The camera then slowly pans out as eerie music continues to play. The two stare into the camera that they are filming without saying a word until they are told to do another take. They then repeat the line as the title of the series appears with the swell of the eerie music.
The series was co-created and written by both Fielder and Safdie with Fielder serving also as director, and is a joint production between Showtime and A24. Stone executive produces alongside Dave McCary (Brigsby Bear) and Ali Herting (Bodies Bodies Bodies). The Curse will be available to stream on November 10. Watch the new teaser trailer here!
