Barbie: A Touch of Magic, a new Barbie animated series is debuting on Netflix next month. The announcement of the new show came during the very successful Greta Gerwig (Little Women) Barbie movie, which has been titled the highest-grossing domestic film release this year. The new series is coming to the streaming giant in September. Via Comicbook, “The 13-episode season will be a successor to the popular Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures series.”
Barbie: A Touch of Magic follows Barbie and Barbie in Malibu as they find a mysterious young horse. As they work together to find where the horse came from, they discover the horse is actually a Pegasus named Peggy who was sent on an expedition to Malibu. The two Barbies seek the help of family and friends to help keep Peggy safe from Rocki, another magical being with negative intentions. The show will feature new original music, and according to Comicbook, Alex Godfrey, vice president of content distribution at Mattel Television said, “Our animated Netflix content has always been a focal point for the reinvigoration of the Barbie brand, and A Touch of Magic promises to bring the same level of fantasy fans have enjoyed in our previous series and specials to the forefront once again by delivering all new adventure focused on fun, friendship, and all things Barbie.” Godfrey believes that Barbie has become a phenomenon culturally, and teaches its viewers, specifically the younger generation that anybody can be anything they set their mind to, which is what A Touch of Magic will exemplify.
A Touch of Magic is a return to the world established in the 2018 Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures, with each episode running twenty-two minutes in length.
The new Barbie: A Touch of Magic series will premiere on Netflix on September 14.
