Rick and Michonne aren’t done quite yet. According to Comic Book, the title was officially confirmed, again, as The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live; this confirmation was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con within a panel in Hall H on Friday. Previously, the title was The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne, but this new title has a lot more to say. A new teaser trailer was also unsheathed and can be seen below from AMC’s official The Walking Dead Twitter account.

The Walking Dead spinoff series will, of course, feature Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead, Penguin Bloom) and Danai Gurira (Black Panther, The Visitor). Last year at Comic-Con, Gurira and Lincoln made a surprise appearance announcing that Rick and Michonne would undoubtably reunite in a series that will be “the conclusion of this story of Rick and Michonne.”
The spinoff series will pick up following Rick’s disappearance aboard a Civic Republic Military helicopter and Michonne’s search for the father of her children.
According to Comic Book, Michonne narrated, “I’ve been out there a long time. I lost someone, years ago, and then things changed. I found out that he’s alive.” Within the teaser, audiences can see a machete-wielding Rick Grimes who spent years in captivity working at a Civic Republic Military zombie-culling facility.
AMC says that The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live “presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By unstoppable power, By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… and ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
In regards to the spinoff series, creator and executive producer of the series Scott M. Gimple (Tales of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) described the series as an “epic and insane love story.” Gimple also stated, “These are two people that have been separated for a very long time. They’ve lived whole other existences and they have to find themselves again, let alone each other. And it’s hopefully going to be mind-blowing. We see this incredible power couple, but we also see that Red Machete Rick. We see that Michonne who taught a thing or two to the governor. It kind of goes coast to coast that way between the intimate and the epic and the insane.”
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is set to premiere in 2024!
