According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prime Video is adding a new feature to its streaming service. The new feature will allow subscribers to increase the dialogue in television shows and movies. This new feature is called ‘Dialogue Boost.’
Variety reported that Dialogue Boost is currently only offered on a restricted number of Prime Video original shows. Originally designed for hard-of-hearing viewers, the feature can be utilized by any viewer to enhance their personal listening experience.
The accessibility feature called “Dialogue Boost” utilizes an “AI-based approach” that enables viewers to modify the volume of spoken dialogue without altering the volume of the background music or sound effects, according to Vulture. Prime Video claims to be the “first global streaming service” to provide this feature.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, by analyzing the audio of a program, Dialogue Boost identifies areas where dialogue may be difficult to hear and uses AI to enhance the speech without adjusting the volume of background music or sound effects. This targeted enhancement of spoken dialogue is distinct from traditional methods such as using a center channel speaker in a home theater setup, according to Amazon.
According to Vulture, Prime Video’s original television shows that have the Dialogue Boost feature include Harlem, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Prime Video’s original movies that have the Dialogue Boost feature include Being the Ricardos, The Big Sick, and Beautiful Boy. Dialogue Boost can be found in the drop-down menu with subtitles and audio options.
According to Variety, customers using Prime Video can check if a title has Dialogue Boost available by looking at its detail page. When watching, they can adjust the level of Dialogue Boost they prefer via the audio and subtitles drop-down menu, which offers two options: “English Dialogue Boost: Medium” or “Dialogue Boost: High.”
“At Prime Video, we are committed to building an inclusive, equitable, and enjoyable streaming experience for all our customers,” said the Vice President of Technology at Prime Video and Amazon Studios Raf Soltanovich via The Hollywood Reporter. “Our library of captioned and audio-described content continues to grow, and by leveraging our technological capabilities to create industry-first innovations like Dialogue Boost, we are taking another step to create a more accessible streaming experience.”
Dialogue Boost will expand to more Prime Video original titles throughout the year.
