Amazon Prime Video’s original series The Legend of Vox Machina season two episode three entitled “The Sunken Tomb” kicks off with the team finding the location of the tomb that could hold the weapons needed to defeat the conclave. During this Ashley Johnson’s Pike Trickfoot has a vision of the leader of the conclave killing everyone she cares about. In her mind, she sees that every day the conclave grows stronger with less time for the team to stop them. Due to her being a holy warrior she sees that if everyone she cares about dies it would be her fault. From this the viewer can tell that she has a tendency to carry the world on her shoulders. Luckily, Travis Willingham’s Grog manages to snap her out of the shock she goes through to get her to focus on not letting the vision come true.
Additionally, the viewer sees a flashback to Laura Bailey’s Vex’ahlia and Liam O’Brien’s Vax’ildan childhood where their father apparently hated them for not being pure elves. This leads to them leaving their home and setting off on their own, much to Vex’s dismay. In her mind, she does not care about her father hating them as she appears to be used to it. Unfortunately, it would seem to the viewer that Vax keeps deciding what is best for them without taking into consideration what she wants. As a result of this she abandons him, showing that she can fend for herself by successfully hunting a deer to eat. The interesting part about this is how she ends up finding Vax as he is crying alone. At this point, the viewer realizes that Vax is the one that needs Vex which is why he always wants to stay close to her. In his mind, he sees that the world scares him deeply as he is not strong enough to take it head on. Deep down he is just a scared little boy that wants someone to save him whenever he feels overwhelmed.
At the end of episode, the team comes across two of the Slayer’s Take members that have followed them on their quest. This is due to them feeling as if the team is not worthy of completing the quest given to them by their group leader. Unfortunately, they end up leaving the team behind as they run into a setback while trying to deal with a swarm of enemies. Ultimately, as a couple of the team members play around with a tomb it inadvertently kills Vex, much to everyone’s horror. This leads to Vax breaking down in tears remembering how she promised to never leave him alone. In his mind, now that Vex is gone, he wonders how he will ever survive without her. She was the one who kept him together no matter how bad things got for everyone. By the look on his face the viewer can tell that the thought of Vex not being by his side will force him to finally grow up and not be afraid of the world anymore.
