Disney Plus’s Original Series Andor Season One Episode Three “Reckoning” starts with Antonio Vina’s young Cassian Andor investigating a crashed ship on his home planet. From here the viewer is given a demonstration on how a young Andor learns about technology. Obviously, he has never seen anything that wasn’t made from sticks or branches which is shown by the look on his face. The interesting part is that it would appear he did not even know what he looked like until he saw his own reflection in a screen due to his people living a primitive life. This can be compared to how a Native American first encountered settlers seeing modern technology for the first time. In his mind, he seems to know that as a result of technology his world was damaged as well with a giant hole left by the empire. Which is why he decides to smash everything he sees because of his need to save what is left of his home. Luckily, for him he is taken by a group of scavengers that way he is not presumed to be responsible for the ship’s crew being killed when his people were the ones who killed them by the Republic.
Further into the episode, the viewer sees Kyle Soller’s Syril Karn as he along with other planetary officers’ search for Andor on the planet he is on to arrest him as a result of him killing two officers in another part of the world. Meanwhile, Adria Arjona’ Bix Caleen ends up finding out that her worker was the one who turned in Andor leading to her run after Andor to warn him before it is too late. In her mind, she is hurt that the nice guy she has a semi-relationship with as well as trusted enough to tell him about Andor betrayed her. Now she feels if anything happens to Andor then it will be her fault or worse if he survives then he will never talk nor trust her again. The viewer can guess that him not talking to her or trusting her again would be worse for her considering that she is in love with him. Unfortunately, during the raid the officers perform her work friend ends up being killed because of him trying to save her from them. This further adds to her guilt as she now lost someone who was important to her even if he betrayed her trust.
At the end of the episode, the viewer finds out that the mysterious man is in fact Bix’s contact for Andor to sell his piece of technology to. The fascinating part is that the mysterious man is not here to buy the technology Andor has. Instead, he is here to get Andor for something the technology was just a bonus. The viewer can guess that the man is part of the rebel alliance and wants to recruit him due to his skills as a scavenger. Additionally, Andor and the mysterious man have a confrontation with Syril and the officers. As a result of this they use a decoy land speeder filled with explosives to escape leaving the officers beaten.
