In preparation for its third season’s production, Apple TV+ has announced that actress Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) has been cast for the upcoming installment of its original series Physical which stars Rose Byrne (Insidious), according to Deadline. Debuting on the streamer in the summer of 2021, the 30-minute dramedy series has released twenty episodes over the course of its two-season run.
Created by Annie Weisman, Physical covers the life of Sheila Rubin, a young woman who is attempting to find herself in the world of the 1980s aerobics trend in San Diego, California. Byrne, who stars as Sheila as well as acts as an executive producer on the series, is joined by the likes of stand-up comic Rory Scovel (The Eric Andre Show), Paul Sparks (The Night Of, Boardwalk Empire), Della Saba (Zootopia), Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers), Geoffrey Arend (Madam Secretary), and Dierdre Friel (New Amsterdam) on the show’s main cast.
Deschanel, best known for her work on Fox’s hit sitcom New Girl as well as film roles in Almost Famous and (500) Days of Summer, will join the streaming original series as Kelly who is an established ‘80s network television starlet set to put her name out in the trending world of aerobics. Her casting follows news that HBO’s White Lotus and subsequent Emmy winner Murray Bartlett will be attached to the upcoming season of Apple’s Physical.
