Deadline reported yesterday that five-time Emmy-nominated TV writer and producer, Eric Wienberg (Veronica’s Closet, Politically Incorrect), was taken into custody by LAPD for alleged rape charges. Weinberg was arrested at his Los Feliz residence and held on a $3.225 million dollar bond. The investigation will soon be passed on to the Los Angeles County District Attorney.
According to Deadline, detectives believe Weinberg is allegedly responsible for multiple alleged sexual assaults occurring between 2012 and 2019 in the LA area. Police surmised that Weinberg allegedly found his victims, women in their 20s and 30s, in various public places including grocery stores and coffee shops. After striking up a conversation, the suspect would allegedly convince them to come to his home under the guise of a photo shoot. Once there, police allege Wienberg would enact the violent act.
“When the case is submitted, we will review it and determine if charges are appropriate,” a representative of L.A. District Attorney George Gascón’s office told Deadline. As the investigation continues, LAPD has encouraged possible “unidentified victims” to come forward with any information regarding other attacks as they think Weinberg’s violent streak may have begun in the 1990s.
According to Deadline, Weinberg is credited as co-executive producer on over 100 episodes of the workplace comedy, Scrubs, which aired from 2001 to 2007. The Hollywood Reporter lists he served in the same position on Showtime’s Californication starring The X-Flies David Duchovny and FX’s Anger Management led by Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men). His Emmy nominations also came from writing on Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect. Other credits include American Dad! and Wilfred.
The cast of Scrubs recently reunited with creator Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) at June’s ATX TV Festival in Austin. The reunion included stars Zach Braff (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Donald Faison (The Exes), Sarah Chalke (Firefly Lane), John C. McGinley (Brooklyn-Nine-Nine), Judy Reyes (Claws), and Neil Flynn (The Middle). The panel was originally set for 2020 but was canceled due to the COVID pandemic.
