The first TV adaptation of I Know What You Did Last Summer has been canceled at Amazon Prime Video, according to Deadline. The series was based on the original novel by Lois Duncan (Killing Mr. Griffin, Stanger With My Face) and the popular 1990s slasher film of the same name. The series was written and executive produced by Sara Goodman (Rake, Preacher), Amazon Studios, and Sony Pictures TV.

In this adaptation, a group of high schoolers is haunted by a killer one year after a fatal accident that occurred the summer of their senior year. According to Deadline, the series starred Madison Iseman (Annabelle Comes Home, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween), Sebastian Amoruso (Solve), Brianne Tju (Scream: The TV Series, Light as a Feather), Fiona Rene (Stumptown, Jane the Virgin), Ezekiel Goodman (Peacocking, Rat Bastard), Cassie Beck (Chicago Med, Almost There), Ashley Moore (Rule of Thirds, Salvation), Brooke Bloom (All the Boys Love Mandy, Marriage Story), and Bill Heck (I’m Your Woman, Locke & Key). Sonya Balmores (Inhumans, Den of Thieves) and Spencer Sutherland (Vote for Love, RomComPods) appeared in recurring roles.

Deadline reports the eight-episode season was a part of Amazon’s slate of new programming geared toward a younger demographic. Other shows in this genre on the streaming service include the thriller, The Wilds, animated series Fairfax, and the upcoming romantic comedy series The Summer I Turned Pretty. Both The Wilds and Fairfax have been renewed for second seasons.

Goodman shares producing duties with Neal H. Mortiz (The Fast and the Furious, Out of Time) of Original Films, Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, John Wick 3: Parabellum), and Erik Feig (Chaos Walking, Divergent), who served as an executive producer for the original film. Additional producers included James Wan (Saw, Aquaman), Rob Hackett (The Magic Order, Archive 81), and Michael Clear (Malignant, Lights Out) of Atomic Monster.

I Know What You Did Last Summer, which premiered in October of 2021, can be streamed in its entirety on Amazon Prime.
