Reservation Dogs features a story about four Indigenous teenagers from rural Oklahoma as they commit crimes to get to their dreamland, California. According to HollywoodReporter, the show is also filmed in Oklahoma. The show is notable for its Indigenous participation as it is made by an almost entirely Indigenous team. The two creators of the series, Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, executively produced the show with Emmy-nominated Garret Basch (The Night Of). An Oklahoma native, Harjo has directed works such as Mekko (2015) and Love And Fury (2021). An Academy Award and Grammy winner, Waititi has directed the well-known Jojo Rabbit (2019) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017). FX, Piki Films, and Film Rites serve as production companies for this show.
The four main casts of Reservation Dogs have all expressed their joy through their social media accounts. Canadian actress Devery Jacobs (Young Ghouls), who portrays Elora Danan Postoak in the show, wrote on her Instagram: “Indigenous stories are necessary. Indigenous stories are valid. Indigenous stories are beautiful — and we are just scratching the surface!” The other two Canadian casts, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Creeped Out) and Paulina Alexis (Beans), shared the news on their Instagram stories. The Oklahoma native Lane Factor, who plays Cheese, also showed his excitement on his account.
